David H. Sawyer, a pioneer in the field of political consulting, founded the G7 Group in 1993. David began consulting in the early 1970s to meet the strategic demands of prominent US senators and state governors, as well as leading politicians in foreign countries. His work grew into the field of strategic and government relations consulting for multi-national companies. The G7 Group's purpose was, and remains, to advise clients on the macroeconomic and political developments that affect financial markets.

With a core group of analysts based in Washington, DC, the Group began offering its views in the G7 Daily Briefing, the US Report and through advisory services for large financial institutions, investment banks, hedge funds and multinational corporations. The G7 Telecom Briefing was launched in 1999, followed by the proprietary G7 Investment Index in 2002. The Group's business operations, client relations work, and company administration are conducted from its New York City office.

David Sawyer passed away in 1995 and management of the firm was assumed by Jane Hartley, G7 Group's Chief Operating Officer at the time and long-time colleague of David's. Jane served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the G7 Group from 1996 until late October 2007, when she and several other G7 managers left the firm. At that time, Les Alperstein was named Chief Executive Officer of the G7 Group. Les is a former Federal Reserve Bank economist, former Wall Street research director, and the founder/CEO of Washington Analysis Corporation (WAC), the top Washington macro policy analysts in the industry. WAC has been the #1 ranked independent research provider on governmental policy by Institutional Investor Magazine since 1995.
